Rene is called on by Runner to perform a covert mission. His job is to protect Felix during his time stuck in the besieged Skippercity until others from Legion can find and protect him. He's instructed to perform his duty without being seen by Felix. During his mission he stumbles upon a group of people in the middle of taking a woman against her will for untold nefarious reasons. Unable to let this happen, Rene guns down the lot of them and saves the woman who nearly instantaneously becomes infatuated with him. She introduces herself as Shirley and that she's named after her aunt. She follows Rene around on his mission and it is later shown that she's actually in the group that were actively hunting Felix. She's eventually taken away by a super to another area but makes a brief reappearance beside Skipper. |

During another mission for Runner, Rene critically injures himself after jumping off the roof of a high rise building. Despite his many fractures he manages to hide beneath a semi-truck between it's rear wheels mostly out of sight. However when Seville, Bianca, and Linne Lynn step out of a portal and begin searching for him, Bianca spots him, but does her best to make sure no one else notices him. Even as two teams of soldiers come out of portals and scour the area, she directs them to areas away from Rene. After all others leave the way they came, she gathers Rene up and they go to her apartment via a portal. The two spend a small amount of time together talking, revealing a few things about Bianca, such as her being an agent of Zeus, and that she views herself and Rene as star-crossed lovers. It's also revealed to her that Rene is Awakened and very comfortable with what that means. Shortly, Runner's disembodied voice communicates to the pair. In the limited time, Bianca (still going by Shirley) questions Runner about her father. It's revealed that Ryker thinks her dead, along with her mother Claire and that her name as given by her father and would-be adoptive mother and aunt, the actual Shirley, is Bianca. Much later in the book, Rene is sent on a more extended mission with a variety of tasks to handle. Bianca finds him almost immediately upon his arrival, having set a great many spells in place to detect his presence should he appear. She joins Rene and begins insisting on using the name Bianca over Shirley. The two work together to complete all the tasks, growing fonder of each other through their time together and exploring their mutual mental traumas. At one point they have a brief lunch with Claire who seemingly approved of Rene, or at least maintained her civility with him. Bianca also has Rene say "hello" when she receives a call from "Uncle Seville" to prove that she is on a date. She once again asserts her name as Bianca. As they finish their last tasks together, Bianca as a parting gift buys many skill books for Rene to take back with him. |
