Decima appears in Sam's portal to the afterlife after he reconnects Irma with the spirit of her mother. She is well-known to Sam as a highly skilled and powerful paranormal hunter in her previous life, and they had actually met during her previous life. Due to her misguided excesses in her previous life, Decima has several more centuries in the afterlife on her balance, and takes the opportunity presented by Sam's portal to strike a deal with him. In return for his aid in helping her escape from the afterlife, she agrees to marry him (the only way she would agree to feed him). A stipulation that causes an issue for Sam with Irma and leads to him making her his wife also. Sam spends considerable resources to create Decima a body and pull her soul from the afterlife back to the Prime plane. He runs a risk of incurring the attention of the Higher Planes by doing so, but decides to risk it. Decima is very skilled, but holds many prejudices against paranormals, and lacks any level of tact when expressing those opinions. This combination leads to intra-team friction, but Decima makes a sincere and earnest effort to overcome her past indoctrination in an effort to balance her soul, and become a better person and member of the team. |

Decima continues in her role as mission planner and squad leader for the PMC, which she is very good at, but she is constantly confronted with evidence that her prior life's experiences and world view were not based on the truth. The mission to recover the Log for Reixhitz was especially traumatic for her as she is confronted with souls that she wronged, and then travels to The End and learns that the Originator lost the war and fled. The revelation that Aster was a member of the Originator's army also shook her emotional state. Sam gently nudges her along the path of emotional growth and she eventually admits that so much of what she though was true was based on lies. During the protection detail mission, Decima takes on the role of housewife, which is a rather uncomfortable role for her, but she learns how to manage it. It does lead to her consummating her marriage to Sam, and discovering that she enjoys sex. Enjoys it a great deal as a matter of fact, which even leads to friction with Hillary as she is monopolizing Sam's time. She embraces the role of Aunt to Mitch, and they develop a bond during the extraction phase of the mission. |
